About Kern Shooting Sports

Kern Shooting Sports is a local club serving Bakersfield California and the surrounding area.  Our club is dedicated to the preservation of the Second Amendment, and the promotion of shooting sports in Kern County. KSS is affiliated with the National Rifle Association (NRA), California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA) and the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).

The club offers firearms instruction classes for handguns, shotguns and rifles. Many of our courses are designed for beginners, and all are focused on firearm safety and taught by NRA certified instructors.  We also have programs specifically for women and junior shooters, as well as certified hunter safety courses.

Club membership is NOT required to attend any of our classes.  Safe and responsible firearm practices are the foundation for a lifetime of happy shooting.  See our Courses & Classes page for details on all of our instructional offerings.

With private facilities at 5 Dogs Range, KSS hosts a variety of matches friendly enough for novices to learn at, while challenging enough to satisfy seasoned competitors. Regular matches include .22 Rim Fire Falling Plate, Steel Challenge pistol matches and NRA sanctioned High Power Rifle matches.  Sporting clays, Bianchi Pistol  and other matches are less frequent, but can be offered by request.

Membership is NOT required to participate in most Club matches.  Check our Club Matches page for more information on all competition types offered and any requirements for specific match types.

Kern Shooting Sports above all else, is it's membership.  Whether it's for hunting, competition, self defense or recreational target practice we are people who love the shooting sports, and want to preserve and share them with others.

While membership is not required to participate in anything we offer, we cannot offer anything without our membership.  For more information on becoming a KSS member please visit our Membership page.
